COURSE OBJECTIVES:
  • To become acquainted with and examine beliefs, theories, processes, and approaches related to literacy learning and teaching;
  • To focus on components of English language arts learning/teaching through theory-to-practice implementation;
  • To develop ways of integrating the language processes of reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and image-making;
  • To adapt English language arts processes as tools for learning in all subject/content areas;
  • To apply reading and writing skills and strategies through participation in literature circles;
  • To consider the presence of literature as a partner in teaching and creating readers & writers;
  • To explore the lifelong nature of literacy learning and the relationship of assessment and evaluation to teaching/learning decisions.
